ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (Feb. 9, 2024) – The Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Career Development Center will host a Business and Government Career Exposition on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be in the Williams Hall Gymnasium and is open to the public.
Amber Lennon, ECSU executive director of Career and Professional Development and Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), said career fairs are a pivotal way to link a thriving job market to a public, of all ages, seeking varied employment.
“Career events provide students with an opportunity to directly connect with prospective employers and learn about career opportunities as they seek internship and career opportunities,” she said. “Making these opportunities available to the community provides residents with access to career resources, new employment prospects, and avenues to make career changes. That fosters collaboration and bridges a connection with ECSU."
Lennon also suggests using social media platforms like LinkedIn to research prospective employers and researching articles like Ten Tips to Make the Most of Your College Career Fair to prepare for career events. So far, 30 employers are registered for the upcoming career fair, including Dollar General, Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, and the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
“Technology has impacted how career fairs are conducted,” she said. “It is recommended to conduct regular Google searchers of yourself to see what information you can find, as many employers will conduct a social media check on prospective employees during the hiring process.”
ECSU students are asked to register for the event on Handshake. For more information, email careerdevelopmentctr@ecsu.edu or call (252) 335-3318.
