Take the First Step
Your first step in receiving financial aid at Elizabeth City State University is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Once we receive your FAFSA results and any required documents, we will review your information and notify you of your financial aid award.
ECSU offers a variety of financial aid options, including grants, scholarships, loans, and Federal Work-Study. Our Financial Aid team is here to support you every step of the way as you begin and continue your journey as a Viking.
IMPORTANT: ECSU’s Federal School Code, which is required to send your FAFSA information to ECSU, is 002926.
After completing your FAFSA:
What are my next steps?
- Log in to the Financial Aid Portal: Access ECSU’s student portal where financial aid information is managed.
- Review Your Award Offer: Check the details of your financial aid package, including grants, loans, and scholarships.
- Accept or Decline Awards: Grants are usually accepted automatically, but you may need to manually accept loans or work-study offers.
- Complete Missing Documentation: If you’re accepting loans, complete entrance counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) at studentaid.gov.
- Submit Additional Forms: If required, provide any additional documentation, such as verification forms or proof of other financial resources.
- Monitor Your Status: Keep an eye on your financial aid status to ensure all steps are completed and funds are disbursed.
