RALEIGH, N.C. – University of North Carolina System President Peter Hans today announced the formation of a 13-member committee that will help search for the next chancellor of Elizabeth City State University.
Dr. Stephanie Johnson, chair of the ECSU Board of Trustees, will lead the search advisory committee. She is a 1974 graduate of Elizabeth City State and an adjunct professor at Hampton University.
“Elizabeth City State has been on the ascent, and I’m eager to see the university keep climbing,” Hans said. “This institution means a lot to northeastern North Carolina, and it’s a source of pride to all of us. I’m grateful to Dr. Johnson for chairing this search.”
“I’m honored to lead this distinguished group in the important mission before us,” Johnson said. “Elizabeth City State is growing and thriving, and we are enthusiastic about our ability to attract a talented leader who will build on our momentum. The Vikings have a bright future.”
Under UNC System policy, the search advisory committee is composed of up to 13 voting members, including representatives of the trustees, faculty, staff, students and alumni. The committee also calls for a current or former chancellor of a UNC System institution to serve, as well as members of the UNC Board of Governors and the president or his designee.
Opportunities for public input will be available during the search process, including an online survey and in-person listening sessions. Forums will be held in the spring semester.
More information about the search process will be available soon on the Elizabeth City State website.
