Public & Media Relations

The Office of Communications and Marketing develops, integrates, and implements public relations activities designed to create affinity for and enhance the image of the university including story telling that highlights institutional successes, programs, and alumni and students.

The office works to enhance the image of the university by interacting with local, regional and national media outlets. The office establishes two-way communication with print, broadcast and electronic media by distributing news releases, advisories, and photo opportunities to the media and by handling inquiries from the media.

The media relations office also communicates internally with students, faculty and staff in collaboration with the Office of the Chancellor and the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Business and Finance, and Student Affairs. Additionally, the communications team advises faculty, staff and students to prepare them for interviews with the media and for select public appearances. Services also include:

  • Issuing news releases to local, statewide and national news media outlets to raise awareness of the institution
  • Pitching stories to news outlets to garner media placements
  • Monitoring news activity and create monthly analytic reports of coverage

ECSU faculty and staff often serve as subject experts for stories about current events or situations in the news. Appropriate staff may also be interviewed by the media for stories about the university. If you have questions about media relations or would like to arrange an interview with faculty, staff or students, call (252) 335-3686 or email mediaquestions@ecsu.edu

If you have news or a story idea (new grant; alumni, faculty, staff or student success; new program/initiative; etc.), submit a Project Request Form
