Fund for Education Abroad
The Fund for Education Abroad supports American undergraduates with financial need who are studying abroad for at least four weeks and have not previously done so since high school graduation, with preference given to students underrepresented in study abroad. To be eligible for the FEA Program, applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients enrolled as undergraduates at a U.S. institution of higher education.

Gilman-McCain Application
The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application (including Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve, Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Space Force, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and USPHS Commissioned Corps) to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs. Applicants must be recipients of any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving Title IV federal financial aid during their study abroad program or internship.

Gilman Program Application - Awards up to $5,000
The Gilman Program supports American students to gain career skills and global networks that further their professional development and the U.S. economy. To be eligible for the Gilman Program, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship.

2027-2028 Award Cycle - Fully Funded Programs
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program supports American students to pursue research, study, or English teaching assistantships abroad, building leadership skills and global connections that further their professional development and mutual understanding between the U.S. and other countries. To be eligible for the Fulbright Program, applicants must be U.S. citizens who hold a bachelor’s degree by the start of the grant.

GAIN Scholars Grant & GAIN Travel Grant
CIEE offers need based and merit based funding opportunties. The GAIN Scholars Grant (reducing program fees) and the GAIN Travel Grant (reducing travel fees) are two new distinct sources of funding. Students may qualify for both. Visit the scholarship and grant page for more information abou the GAIN grants and other CIEE funding.
Boren Scholars and Fellows
The Boren Awards provide U.S. undergraduate and graduate students with funding to study languages critical to national security in regions underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens matriculated in an accredited degree program and must commit to fulfilling a federal service requirement after completing the award.

Passport Scholarships
The Brenda A. Brown Passport Scholarship, offered through Expanding Boundaries International, covers the cost of a first-time U.S. passport for high school and college students preparing to study, intern, or volunteer abroad. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be a resident of any U.S. state or the District of Columbia and be ready to apply for their passport within two months of accepting the award.
Applications are reviewed on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
