Program Overview

The Pharmaceutical Sciences program at Elizabeth City State University is designed to develop well-prepared graduates with strong scientific, analytical, and communication skills.

Students gain experience in:

  • Data collection and analysis
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving

This program prepares students to be competitive for top graduate and professional schools in pharmacy, medicine, and biomedical sciences.

Dual-Degree Pathway (Pharmacy)

ECSU offers a pathway in partnership with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore that allows students to begin their pharmaceutical sciences degree at ECSU and continue toward a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.).

This creates a direct route for students pursuing a career as a pharmacist.

Curriculum and Learning Experience

What You’ll Learn

Pharmaceutical Sciences combines multiple disciplines that contribute to the development and discovery of new drugs and therapies.

Coursework includes areas such as:

  • Pharmacology
  • Pharmaceutical analysis
  • Drug discovery and development
  • Biochemistry and biotechnology
  • Physics and advanced chemistry

Students also complete a capstone experience and advanced coursework to strengthen research and communication skills.

This degree alone does not qualify graduates to become licensed pharmacists—it is a pre-professional pathway.
